One of our favorite organizations is MindfulSchools.org which brings mindfulness training to children and their teachers. We are so inspired at the results being experienced by schools which take the time to incorporate mindful practices into their curriculum. For example, take this San Francisco middle school which experienced a 75% decrease in suspensions, an increase in academic performance and a boost in overall attendance.
We believe mindfulness begins in the home. Our driving force is to make the world a better place by supporting as many people as we can into becoming more aware of themselves and the impact that they make on others. This includes our children, family and co-workers.
The San Francisco school example cited above is but a small part of a bigger picture. Children who incorporated a small amount of “quiet time” as meditation experienced less anger towards their peers and more engagement with their school environment. As an adult, can you imagine the impact of beginning a small practice and what it might bring to your life and to those around you?
On a larger scale, we contemplate that vision each and every day. A world full of grown-ups being mindful of each other and our children. A world with less violence, anger and hate. We know it seems like a lofty goal, but we’re just crazy enough to believe it can be done. In fact, it has already begun. Will you join us?
